Design of high speed mechanical seals

The design of mechanical seals must first be carefully investigated to obtain the design conditions and required parameters:

1. Type of the host and the part to be sealed.

2. Operating conditions. That is, medium pressure, medium temperature and shaft speed. Name, composition and nature of the sealed medium. Including density, viscosity, vaporization pressure, whether there is corrosion, suspended particles, etc.

3. Permissible limit value of leakage.

4. Vibration and deflection of the shaft.

5. Structure of sealing parts. Including (shaft or sleeve) size, sealing cavity structure, sealing cavity diameter and depth, sealing gland assembly size and surface roughness.

6. Auxiliary system. The temperature of the cooling water, whether it has the conditions to take washing and cooling measures, and whether there is a filter device.

Working parameters, performance indicators:

Sealed medium: propylene, liquefied gas

Leakage: 10mm/h

Medium pressure: 0.10MPa

Service life: more than one year

Revolution: 7800r/min

Temperature: normal temperature
