Mechanical seal O-ring common failures and corrective measures

The overheating of the O-ring is usually caused by the unfavorable conditions of excessive heat generated by the sealing surface of the centrifugal pump. The polytetrafluoroethylene 0 ring turns blue or black, and the 0 rubber ring hardens and cracks. The situation near the sealing surface is always serious.

1. O-ring overheating

Relevant corrective measures: Check the circulation of the centrifugal pump seal chamber (if equipped with a cooler should also be checked at the same time) to see if there is blockage. Check whether the pump has reduced suction capacity, dry operation, slag and other faults. Check product condition according to original regulations.

2. O-ring extrusion

Extrusion occurs when a part of the O-ring is forced through a small gap. This extrusion occurs when the seal is assembled or assembled with too much force, or when the operating pressure and temperature are too high. O-ring extrusion can also occur when adjusting the shaft seal element, if the size exceeds the limit, resulting in a large gap between the components. The polytetrafluoroethylene 0 ring has a curling phenomenon, and the rubber O-ring is peeled or torn.

Relevant corrective actions: check the assembly method and operating conditions to ensure that all parts of the seal are adjusted to the original design requirements or re-adjusted by the manufacturer.

3. O-ring is not qualified

When the O-ring is improperly selected, it will cause swelling, edge biting and other deformation, which will not only cause the O-ring itself to lose its original performance and break, but also prevent the sliding part from moving.

Relevant corrective actions: Check the working conditions of the original product of the shaft seal to see whether the material is suitable, if not, the O-ring material and size should be re-selected
